Historical Marker Dedication for the Attempted Assassination of Isaiah H. Lofton
Please join the Georgia Historical Society and the City of Hogansville on Saturday, September 14, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at the intersection of West Main Street and Boozer Street, Hogansville, as we dedicate a historical marker recognizing the Attempted Assassination of Isaiah H. Lofton. The Isaiah H. Lofton historical marker will be added to the Georgia Civil Rights Trail to highlight the influence of his attempted assassination on the larger struggle for African-American civil rights in Georgia. On a national scale, it is believed that this event was a contributing factor in the creation of the National Afro-American Council, served as a precursor for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). This will be the first marker on the Georgia Civil Rights Trail located in Troup County.
