Lafayette Day Video Release
Marquis de Lafayette Day is officially September 6, his birthday, as proclaimed by Georgia’s Governor, House of Representatives, and Senate. Named after Lafayette’s home near Paris, Chateau de LaGrange, the City of LaGrange, Georgia plans to celebrate the occasion! This year due to COVID-19 the annual in-person ceremony has been cancelled. Instead the Alliance is working with LGTV and the City of LaGrange to produce a celebratory and educational video that will be released on September 6, 2020 at 4:00pm. The Alliance is aware that favorite elements of the ceremony such as the revolutionary war-era muskets firing will be missed. It is the Alliance’s hope that next year will return to an in-person ceremony. The video to be released on September 6th will comprise nine segments including a biography on Lafayette, France’s contributions to the American Revolution, Lafayette’s farewell tour including his travel through Georgia, history of the LaGrange, Georgia statue, and most importantly Lafayette’s efforts as a champion of human rights. The video will feature appearances by Taryl Anderson, Toni Anderson, Alex Hughes, Kathryn Mathews, Carlos Urroz, Dee Dee Williams, and Lafayette Alliance President Richard Ingram.
