Hills & Dales Annual Lecture
The History of Historic Preservation One of the goals at Hills & Dales is to preserve the historic home of the Callaway family. On Tuesday, October 1, Ced Dolder, retired Tax Incentive Consultant for the Department of Natural Resources Historic Preservation Division, will present an overview of historic preservation in the United States: how, when, where, and, most importantly, why did it begin? What were the catalysts of preservation and the mindset of the time? How did historic preservation get the political backing required to make the concept solidify? How did regulations and monetary incentives eventually create an atmosphere of change? Ms. Dolder will also show some examples of projects as they appeared before and after rehabilitation, as well as the problems the property owners faced in gaining approval for tax incentives. The evening will begin with a reception at 6:30 pm, followed by the presentation at 7pm. $15 per person. Free admission for estate members. Reservations are appreciated and can be made by calling (706) 882-3242 or emailing info@hillsanddales.org.
